In 1972, when I was the Dean of Boys at San Ramon High School in Danville CA, I started counseling and teaching Students, Parents, Educators and Members of the California Association Of Student Councils about the Legal Rights of K-12 Students — and in 1975 they fired me for doing that.
I Researched, Advocated, Believed In And Fostered The Bizarre Ideas:
That Students Had Educational Rights At School Because They Were Constitutional People.
That School Is A Right And Not A Privilege Because Federal Courts And The United States Supreme Court Have Told Us So.
That Students Deserved Full Respect Because They Are The Central Focus Of The Educational System Which Their Parents Created And Continue To Pay For Since 1874.
I sued the San Ramon Unified School District, the Superintendent and the School Board and 15 years later, in 1990, I won a Freedom of Speech, Press and Assembly, Civil Rights Case as declared by the California State Supreme Court and the United States Supreme Court!
Advocacy, Counseling, Handbook Distribution
My student advocacy has included the development of a Handbook on K-12 Student Rights and its distribution because it is important that students, parents and educators are aware of the educational rights which belong innately to K-12 students while attending their school.
Since 1975, I have annually published a revised edition of my Handbook 41 times and from 2013 to the present have offered a free, digital copy to those who were interested because it is fun to give away something of real value!

Our answer is the world's hope; it is to rely on youth – not a time of life, but a state of mind, a temper of the will, a quality of the imagination, a predominance of courage over timidity, of the appetite for adventure over the love of ease.
